China Hi-Tech & Telecom Night, August 2001
After the successful Chinese Hitech
& eCommerce last month, VCNOffice and Capital Club co-hosted
another striking event, the China Hi-Tech & Telecom
Night on August 29, which was held to strengthen communication
within the hi-tech sector. Approximately 60 seasoned hi-tech professionals
in Beijing gathered to discuss on the topic Convergence
in Telecommunication.
Convergence in Telecommunications
is a key development in the voice, video, and data communications
areas. It holds great promises for the launch of a whole host
of new services and products. Other than opportunities in eCommerce
&. Commerce, however, there are technical as well as regulatory
issues for its usage in China. China Telecommunication is still
an unexplored virgin, compared with advanced countries due to
its strict industry regulation. Lured by the broad market, people
are closely watching when private enterprise can be allowed to
hold telecom business license, when China Telecom can be divided,
and when foreign investment can be allowed to run in this market.
Dr. Kan Ka Li, the
star speaker of the night, brought us his expertise in the field.
As ex-head of Central Policy Unit, Ministry of Post and Telecommunications,
as well as senior executives to a number of telecom firms, Dr.
Li is even directly involved in the official decision of China
Telecom Transform. China Telecom will be divided sooner or later,
but we can’t expect it divided within a short time, he said,
It is not so certain that broadband will spread quickly, China
consumers have not reached the level we expected.
Our other valuable contribution was
from Dr. John Li, Digital China and Mr.
Michael Xu, B-MIP. Dr. Li described Digital China’s
blooming vigor with his company e-strategy (Digital China, listed
at the HK Stock market last year as a spin off of Legend Group,
has become an signature player in the China hi-tech industry),
while Michael showed us his unique insight in internet multi-media
services.
China has won the passport to WTO.
Telecommunication will be one of the key sectors in the whole
transformation package. It is important for both VCNOffice and
other hi-tech enterprises to put the hands together to mine the
new resources.
Internationalization Meeting,
Society of Technical Communication, Cupertino, California, August
14, 2001
Jinzy Zhu, a seasoned
software professional of VCNOffice Corporation, attended the internationalization
meeting in Cupertino, California, as speaker on August 14. The
meeting was organized by STC – a Society of Technical
Communicators, CA, USA.
Technical veterans joined together
at the meeting to discuss how to localize our software for Chinese
users. Jinzy contributed her points on the topic with her impressive
presentation. Successful localization is not only to translate
your product into Chinese language, but also adapt it to match
Chinese culture and market, Jinzy said. Based on Jinzy’s
statement, full localization includes:
¡¡¡¡¡¤What
is software localization in China?
¡¡¡¡¡¤Why the software localization
in China is important?
¡¡¡¡¡¤What we can do on the
matter?
¡¡¡¡¡¤Any potential problems
we may encounter in the process?
It has been a common sense that more opportunities are appearing
in the China software industry. In the year 2000, Chinese government
announced its new regulation on software development. They expect
to accelerate the pace of whole country’s industrialization
and internationalization by developing software. U.S. entrepreneurs
can dig into this prosperous campaign at broad prospects in such
an environment. Localization, however, will be the key problem
in the process. As is well known, China is unique, compared with
America, in language, culture, and market. How to localize your
products for Chinese consumers will be the base of oversea business
in China.
Chinese Telecom & eCommerce
Night, July 2001
In coordination with Beijing Capital
Club, VCNOffice produced the Chinese Telecom & eCommerce night
on July 31, 2001. It aimed to facilitate communication and cooperation
among IT entrepreneurs and its business partners.
People from Legend China, Digital
China, PriceWaterhouse, Chengwei Ventures LLC, and other famous
Beijing companies joined together to discuss how to further develop
telecom & eCommerce in China.
A good business model will act as
a map, guiding to success, Mr. George Cheung,
VCNOffice Managing Partner, VCNOffice, said in his speech on how
to develop a business model in China.
